One month, five auctions, nine fights, and three black eyes. That was four ways the lion Urataka could have counted the days since he had been captured. One long month since he had left his friends, family, and community to go watch a human town that was on the outskirts of his little forest. One month since Michael had been captured, and he lost all his freedom. It was an awful feeling, but by now the eighteen year old had become use to this life.
This life was certainly different. All the time, Michael was forced to be watched to hopefully be sold. He only got one out of optional exercise a day. During this hour, Michael spent it walking around the exercise room at the pace allowed. What was so rough about this was that the part lion teen was use to running, and use to running a lot. This could barely cure the drive for Michael to work out. However, all he got was one hour a day to stretch his legs. The rest of the time he spent in a small cell on display for every potential buyer. Today was no different.
It was just past auction time, his sixth time on stage, his sixth time without being bought. Stumbling a bit the teenager with a plain white t-shirt fell back into his cage. The noise of the bars locking together, sealing him back in his cage was enough to cause Michael Hayse to tense defensively. After a moment, Michael pulled up the ripped large pair of jeans over his hips, and then he rolled over so he crimson red eyes were facing out. It was simple for him to see everything. The room he was in had dim lighting, to not scare some of the urataka. The most important fact of the room was the crying noise some of the “weaker” urutaka were making.
With a low sigh though, Michael did not make these noises. Instead he just leaned back and let the humans who were looking at the slaves who were on display watch him. He had a tense demeanor but did not seem that aggressive at the moment.

listen to the color of your dream. Cyril couldn't decide if he enjoyed walking around the auction house or hated it. There was so much wasted potential here. Urakata who could have been perfectly obedient had either been either irreparably broken or simply given up. It was cramped, the stench was terrible, and he was not a fan of many of the guards. However, every once in a while he'd find an urakata who was still salvageable. Walking by the cages, he passed by those who were trembling or had a look of complete resignation in their eyes. They weren't even worth his time. Every once in a while, he would stop by a cage and ask a few questions of the urakata. He didn't talk to the humans, of course. They just wanted to sell these individuals, regardless of what little white lies and baseless embellishments they told. Eventually, he came to a blonde male with the features of what seemed to be some sort of cat. He was tense, though Cyril considered this a sign of his willingness to resist. Surprisingly, those were the ones who made the best trainees. They would resist at first, but Cyril had enough experience to know how to redirect that strong will either towards the continued enslavement of urakata or towards the pleasing of their master. "What can you do?" Asked Cyril simply. It was a rather vague question, but it was more useful than one would think. It not only gave him a bit of insight into the urakata's abilities, but it also gave him insight into what information the urakata believed to be pertinent. Or, of course, it could show him the level of resistance an urakata was willing to put up. One time, he had asked the same question to a spider-like urakata, who replied "How about I show you?" before attempting to spit some sort of venom in his face. Suffice to say, Cyril didn't let that spider live for much longer. |

Well this was surprise. Usually after the auctions, Michael never had visitors to the front of the cage. He assumed the people there already learned so much about him; then or as much as the auctioneer wanted to tell about him. This was different. This man just gave off a completely different aura around him. In front of him was a very short male.
This male seemed to be wearing something that did not seem right for the day. He had scars and even covered he could see so many that Michael could not count, but could see with his special red eyes. He guessed though that there were even more because of all the cloths here were wearing covering nearly every inch of his body. This though raised the question, what was up with him.
As Michael observed him, he could tell there was something threatening about him. It seemed that within a moment, this man could strike him and kill him just like any urutaka could. At the same time, Michael was a bit intrigued by the man and wanted to get a better look at him, to get to know him better. He wanted to figure why this man gave off this impression.
Licking his dark red lips a bit, the lion urutaka finally leaned forward into the light. He had thought about the answer to tell this man, and the answer would be as cheeky as the question he was given by the man. Scooting forward into the spotlight that was on his cage, Cyril was finally able to see the full lithe form of the lion. This form was staring to lose its muscle, but as the loose cloths clung to his body, there were traces of it left under his tanned skin.
“I can do plenty of things.” He told the urataka trainer with a slight smirk. To Michael, it was a cheeky answer to counter the vagueness of the question. How is one supposed to tell someone everything that they can do into one simple appreciated answer? It was defiant, short, simple, and somewhat respectful; truly a mixture of a lot of personality the urataka had.
With a very small smirk that shorted off one of the sharp cat like fangs, Michael waited for an answer. Had he already burned a chance with this man, or was that way in?

listen to the color of your dream. The urakata seemed to be observing Cyril just as carefully as Cyril observed him. He was attentive. That was good. Or perhaps it was because some of his scars were showing. He was going into work later, so covering them up would have been impractical. He could feel all of the eyes on him, like a fish in a glass bowl. Perhaps his mind exaggerated such things, perhaps not, but it couldn't hurt to be cautious and overly aware. Cyril's expression remained decidedly unamused at the urakata's response. However, the rebelliousness of those words sparked just enough interest in Cyril to cause him to pause his metronome-like rhythm of walking from one cage to the next, one cage to the next, over and over, unstopping. Surely the aura which this one gave off deserved an extended pause, at least. "I'm sure," responded the urakata trainer of the shinkansen after a brief moment of thought. His eyes traveled along the curves and angles of the slave's body. Whichever idiot on the auction block who had been trying to advertise this individual had been doing something wrong. This was the body of a perfectly good urakata deprived of sufficient food and exercise for some time. Such a bloody waste... "How many times have you been sold before?" he finally asked as his golden eyes flicked over to meet those of the slave. He looked young enough, not even twenty, so a large amount of experience with being repeatedly sold would indicate a rebelliousness and will that no one else had managed to tame. Those were always the most interesting to work with. |

Well it seemed that the free man had finally started to act. The movement around him seemed to start as Cyril started to shift again. To Michael, something was off about the way Cyril was looking at him. It was the normal look he would get from the people who were thinking about buying him. Maybe it was something more. Maybe this man valued him as more than just property. For Michael, that idea was strange and shocking. Never before had he been told that humans could value them as something more than just a toy or tool or beast that needed to be killed.
However, Michael was not pleased when Cyril took a moment to respond. He instead retreated back into the semi darkness, drawing in a steady breath before sighing a bit. What were the thoughts that were running through the head of the trainer? Michael’s curiosity was starting to get the best of him, and the saying after all was “curiosity killed the cat.” Sitting on his hands with the cut nails, his red eyes just stared right at Cyril’s body inspecting him.
“What are some of the talents you have?” He asked the human with a bit of a tone that showed he himself was interested in this man. He would lick his dry light red lips a bit as he just waited for him to say something. Say anything. Cocking his head to the left a bit, Michael was waiting for a response. Instead of a response, Michael got another question; a question that angered him.
“I have NEVER been sold.” He said in an annoyed and offended tone. “What do you think I am? Some common toy.” He said already beginning to lose some respect for the man. Selling him, he’d fight that.

listen to the color of your dream. Ah, a question in return. It wasn't exactly unusual, though generally the urakata's tone was dripping in sarcasm. This one, however, seemed to have a genuine interest in him. Now that was rather rare. "One of my better talents is having conversations," he replied after a moment, though not at all boastfully. It was a purely neutral statement, as if this trait was neither good nor bad, but simply was. "I ask the right questions to find the answers I want, and answer the questions that the other hasn't thought to ask directly," he added. After all, if this urakata was attempting to learn more about Cyril through asking his own questions, a bit of an explanation to his answers was simply common courtesy. Of course, vagueness was also a necessity, as they were in a public setting. It just wouldn't do to bluntly admit that training, interrogation, and torture were some of his strongest talents. His next question certainly struck a chord, though. It seemed the other took offense. Though unusual, it could be explained away by the even more unusual fact that this was the boy's first time at the auction house. Generally urakata were first sold, if they were to be sold away at all, much earlier than this. His previous masters must have either been inexperienced or simply in need of money. Or, perhaps... he had not had previous masters at all? But there was another question being asked of him, and the ones floating through Cyril's mind were perfectly capable of patiently waiting. "Of course not," he responded, just as calmly as before the blonde's outburst, "I think you're an urakata, someone who is neither human nor beast, but, rather, something much more impressive. Why; what do you think you are?" |

In the moment it took Michael to calm down, Cyril started to answer his question. Almost immediately, the anger of such an offensive question left his mind as he listened to a rather long answer. It was truly nice to have someone to /actually/ talk too that it made Michael listen.
These were so important to him because of multiple reasons. Ever since Michael had come to the Auction House, he had never had a decent conversation. The Humans did not want to speak him, expect to demand cookie cutter answer to, “Why should I buy you?” Then the uratakas that were here either were so broken and scared that they couldn’t talk or the ones that were obviously open to talk to anyone and being kind and generous were bought quickly to be house pets. Cyril was different. His long thoughtful reply shown interest in Michael that he never seen out of a human before. Hell, he had never seen it out of anyone here in the auction house before.
Still, his response also triggered a bit of defensiveness in the lion urataka. Michael understood that in his head there was a lot of information that if given as “answer” could get urataka hurt. His family, friends, and countless other free urataka would be risking imprisonment if he answered the questioned this man had, and Cyril knew how to use the answers properly.
“I think, I am someone who made a stupid mistake because of a curiosity to learn and is now someone who is in way over his head.” The Urataka admitted in a low honest tone. He was caught in his own head a little bit. For weeks he had been running the events in over his head. Being seen by that human looking Urataka. The moment when they just stared at each other. Then there was the chase. Then there was him waking up in a steel cell. All for just one more glimpse at a world, which to that point Michael had not been a part of. All to look at the humans, just like how he was being looked at now.
“I was stupid.” He said to himself very faintly as he snapped himself out of his thoughts.
“So? What is your name? Or better yet what should I call you?” He said quickly attempting to cover up his previous comment to hope that Cyril did not hear it.

listen to the color of your dream. This urakata seemed quite willing, if not almost eager, to talk. Cyril had seen what the auction house did to urakata over long periods of time, so that wasn't a surprise at all. The neglect to the mind was just as bad, if not worse, than isolating someone in solitary confinement. No, it was definitely worse. In complete isolation you could at least pretend that you weren't being acknowledged because you were physically separated from society. When the physical separation ended, the mental separation did, too. However, the auction house was different. The humans were openly abusive and neglectful, while the urakata turned on each other to express their frustrations. In those cages, the strongest ones became desperate to cling to whatever sense of humanity they had left. Ha. "Humanity." What a deceiving term... The real interest of the moment, however, was that this urakata wanted to learn. Many urakata did, of course, but few admitted it so openly. It also seemed that this drive was the source of his master's displeasure, or, at the very least, the reason for his own capture. Of course Cyril heard the urakata mutter an admittance of his stupidity, but he didn't deem it significant enough to comment on yet. "You know," Cyril said, not yet intending to answer the caged man's question, "You likely haven't been sold yet because you assume you have the right to ask humans questions before first telling them about yourself. You have too much initiative to be salable." His tone held an odd lack of judgement. Personally, he wasn't fond at all of urakata who enjoyed groveling for any human who passed them by. "Regardless, you can call me Cyril." |

Humanity was a word not in the vocabulary of the lion man. It was a word that urataka free or enslaved would have to forget if they were placed in this auction house. However, it was a word that Michael was trying to grasp on too. It was something that he was trying to hold onto with all his might. He would not let himself given in, and surrender to the treatment he was receiving.
It was lucky for Michael that Cyril either chose to ignore his admittance of stupidity or didn't hear it. It was something that he did not want to his comment brought up because he didn’t want to talk about his mistake, or he really couldn't talk about it. His comments again got a rise out of him.
“Who says I want to be sold into slavery? I’d rather die than to be tied down to a Master.” He said in a low voice. Most of the time he had said that to a person who worked in the auction house, he would have been hit or beaten in some form or fashion. Still, Michael Hayse did not care who he said this to, because it was the truth. He did not want to work for someone. He was a prideful, free lion and he would do his best to not change that.
Still the tone that Cyril took with him was a bit surprising. The tone the trainer took however was rather interesting. He didn’t seem to be chastising him, or correcting him, just simply pointing out why he was not in the month it had been since he was first put up for auction. It was for this reason that no matter how much Michael wanted to get angry or be angry with the short in front of him he couldn’t be angry at him. In fact he almost seemed sympathetic to his plight.
“If you want, you can call me Mike, though my full name is right above my cell.” He said lowly as his red eyes looked around frowning a bit. He could feel the conversation was ending, which meant that he would soon be alone again. He had one last question to ask, and then he’d be finished with Cyril, one last question, and then he’d be satisfied for another month.
“I know you will think this is a childish and stupid question, but what is it like outside? Very rarely do I get to see what the outside world looks like in here, and I haven’t seen the son in what seems like in forever.” He told him rather straight forward.

listen to the color of your dream. Who says I want to be sold into slavery?
Well that was an interesting question, wasn't it? It implied that this urakata had been in a state other than slavery before being brought here. The next statement strengthened Cyril's suspicions. This urakata had likely never had a master before. He had probably come from a life of something the urakata called "freedom". It was not the same type of freedom humans knew. Rather, it was more similar to the life of a convict: always trying to run and hide from their true place in society. "Then you would prefer to stay here instead?" Cyril asked, deciding against drawing attention to the caged man's slip-up. Cyril's eyes didn't move from their steady gaze over Mike, even after the urakata mentioned his name was on the cage. He didn't need to know this person's name. The fact that he even had a name was enough, wasn't it? How would the organization of letters and sounds have any significance? Mike's final question was curious, and perhaps more sentimental than Cyril knew how to answer properly. "I'm afraid you'd likely be disappointed today, then. It's rather overcast," he replied after a moment, "You still wouldn't be able to see the sun." |

That was it. It was over. Apparently, Michael had given away the truth that he was actually a formerly free Urataka. It was in Cyril’s head that Michael was hiding from where he truly place in the world. He had to been hiding from servicing men and their needs. If Michael knew this, he’d pose a question about how he was a convict if he had never actually been in the society where he was supposed to be a slave? He had always known the freedom he experienced, and now he was the one being forced to change societies. Who was the monsterd then?
Opening his mouth for a moment he balked at the question. Quickly he shut his mouth. He almost completely revealed that he was a former free urataka. The question he posed was a taught one. It was only fair that Michael would try to answer him because Cyril was answering every question he had posed to him.
“Well, Cyril when you pose the question like that; of course getting out of this hell would be worth having someone buy you. But personally, I would rather neither those things.” He said truthfully. It was the best way for the lion-man to answer the question without giving away that he was free and continue to openly talk with him.
With a snort the red eye man looked up into the top of his cage. Overcast? It seemed like the earth was matching how he felt. He was not super depressed and wanting to die, but how could someone human or urataka be happy to be imprisoned and shown off like they were some common appliance to be used by someone else?
“Honestly, I kind of like it when it is overcast. It seems a bit more peaceful to me than when it is sunny or raining. No one wants to do anything, all you do is sit around and just watch the things happen around you.” Michael said wistfully. It was like the young man was lost in thoughts of just him staring up into the clouds under a tree watching the clouds past, and thinking about anything that crossed his mind.
“Heh. I think you can understand when I say Cyril anything outside would be better to see than what I see in here.” He told him with a bit of dry humor lingering on his tone.
